Combining Best Practices for First Time Instruction and Student Interventions in Small Learning Communities

Using the HSTW framework, Akins High School is a comprehensive urban high school that divided into six small learning communities within in a school. As part of the ongoing Professional Development of the staff, academy leaders and administrators work to help teachers deliver the best first time instruction. These Best Practices strategies have increased scores in the common core classrooms as well as developed personalized instruction for those students needing interventions. This presentation will discuss the instructional strategies as well as intervention strategies used in the smaller learning communities as well as campus wide.
